We launched The Locked Library in November 2022 with a simple idea: fantasy books should feel as extraordinary as the stories they hold.
We're a book-only subscription box, curated by the brilliant imprints within HarperCollins Publishers. Each month, our team handpicks the very best reads and pairs them with exclusive finishes and artwork from some of our favourite illustrators. We want to create editions that feel genuinely special and worthy of their place on your shelf.
As our shelves grew, we opened more doors. In November 2024, we introduced The Forbidden Wing, our romantasy subscription where magic and romance intertwine. We’ve also expanded into Archive Editions, where beloved favourites are reimagined as stunning collectables, and The Locked Library Classics, where the most iconic books in literary history finally get the special edition treatment they deserve.

Our First Box Makes Its Way To Readers
In February 2023, our first box arrived with subscribers featuring our beautiful exclusive edition of The Thorns Remain by JJA Harwood.
Bewitching and threaded with fae magic, we thought this immersive fantasy would be the perfect book for our first box.

Welcome To The Forbidden Wing
In November 2024, we launched The Forbidden Wing, our new romantasy only subscription.
Our first book to feature in this subscription was The Last Raven by Helen Glynn.
2026
Introducing The Locked Library Classics
We introduced The Locked Library Classics with Bram Stoker’s Dracula, launching our new line of non-subscription special editions.

The Locked Library subscription is not able to ship to the US and Canada due to distribution rights.
The Forbidden Wing ships globally, including the US and Canada.
Website editions are subject to individual rights, so please check each announcement and we will clearly signpost where it ships.
How long will it take to get my orders?

We always aim to send the boxes within the designated month. This can be up to and including the last week of the month.
It also depends where you are based:
- UK: Around two weeks after the monthly closing date.
- International: Up to four weeks after the monthly closing date.

Early access is a subscriber only benefit that gives active subscribers an exclusive window to browse and buy website editions before they go on general sale.
